:SPARTACUS (2004):

In 72 B.C., a time when the Roman Empire's brutal force was far-reaching, each country conquered meant new slaves to do their Roman masters' bidding. During this time, Spartacus, sold into slavery as a young boy after witnessing his father's murder, led a slave revolt against Rome's powerful generals and politicians. The profound impact of Spartacus' challenge to the Empire in the name of freedom was felt for years to come.

The $20 million remake of the epic "Spartacus", starring Goran Visnjic ("ER"), features Ross Kemp in his first role for American television. Ross plays Cinna, whip-wielding leader of the gladiatorial school whose viciousness drives Spartacus to revolt.

Filmed in Bulgaria in summer 2003, "Spartacus" is produced by Fuel Entertainment and distributed by USA Cable Entertainment. A crew of 400, 12,000 extras and a literal re-creation of Rome were all part of this enormous undertaking, which includes the staging of no less than three major battles. The four-hour miniseries aired in April 2004 on USA Network.
