:Episode 2 - Mad Dogs:
The firefight against French Special Forces troops
aboard the Dowager Joan has left Jem dead and Caroline fighting
for life in a coma. The rest of Red Troop face a full judicial inquiry
that could lead to their dismissal or land them in jail.
Although the French arrived unannounced in British waters, Dempsey knows that the SAS were there on surveillance and that taking part
in a violent gun battle leaving soldiers dead is unlikely to win
them many friends. He asks Red Troop to make sure their stories
are the same, but Jamie is angry about being coerced into lying.
Captain Ian Macalwain arrives to cover for Dotsy, who was wounded in the attack on the ship. But he's a different character altogether,
expecting the men to salute and call him 'sir' before telling them
they will be taking part in a rugby sevens match against the Coldstream
Guards.
The inquiry gets off to a bad start with compelling
evidence from the ship's skipper Willem and French trooper Lecompte
that the SAS were crazy for violence. Caroline's parents also go
on television to protest that she should never have been sent on
to the ship. In an effort to quieten them, Dempsey tells Henno to
tell them Caroline is being put up for a medal.
Despite their first impressions, the rugby training goes well, but Dempsey arrives to ask them all to give evidence. Although they
will lose their anonymity, appearing in person is the only chance
of winning the tribunal panel over.
Jamie visits Caroline, who starts to come round. But she doesn't
want him there and he goes to visit Mrs Twamley, who encourages
him to visit his own family. Pete arrives in a drunken state, angry
because he thinks Henno has blocked his return to active duty. Mrs
Twamley confesses it was her who wanted him away from the front
line.
Louis goes into the witness box, but Dempsey is horrified when he exercises his right to silence. Jamie's court appearance is brought
forward but he has disappeared to visit his brother and sister.
Pete and Dempsey go on a search and find him beating up his stepfather
Conrad.
There's a shock in court for Henno when he discovers how Caroline really met her injuries, while Dempsey puts pressure on Jamie to
uphold the reputation of the regiment. But as the inquiry reaches
its final stages, one of the men decides to fall on his sword and
take the blame - even though it means the end of his career...
