:Episode 3 - Wannabes:
Jamie, Ricky and Pete trick Louis into picking up
a prostitute, while Mrs Twamley tells a visiting Macalwain her husband
is out, on operational duties. The captain is embarrassed to be
invited in, but he and Mrs T find they hit it off.
That same night, Gary Farmer, a member of a hard right organisation, blows himself up at Me Julie's Nightclub, causing carnage and killing
more than 60 people. At a hastily convened meeting of security forces
and anti-terrorist organisations, the job of finding Gary's comrades
is given to the SAS.
A statement from the so-called Soldiers of Destiny calls for new hard line policies against homosexuals, non-Aryan races and paedophiles
and for large numbers of politicians to resign. If their demands
are not met within 48 hours, more people will die.
Red Troop's targets are Martin Bartlett, whose pamphlets appear to have inspired the bombers, and Suzi Brown, Farmer's accomplice
at the nightclub. Told only to follow and observe, Henno breaks
orders and chases Suzi when he sees her pick up a rucksack dropped
by Bartlett. She gets away and soon afterwards a café is
blown up.
Macalwain is enraged with Henno's insubordination, but there's better news when Henno and Pru track Suzi to the flat of her old
school friend Jenny Lloyd. Meanwhile, a bewildered Jenny gets a
message from Suzi telling her to get out of town - and watch the
news.
Dempsey orders the troops to lift Bartlett and Jenny. They are blindfolded and taken to separate interview rooms, where a petrified
Jenny has no idea what is going on or whom her captors are, while
Bartlett is smug in his racist attitudes. Twamley lays into him,
demanding to know Suzi's whereabouts, while Jamie guesses correctly
that Jenny is the girlfriend of the supposedly anti-gay Suzi.
Suddenly news comes in that 16-year-old schoolboy
Craig has strapped C4 explosives to his chest, telling his headmaster
he is going to be a martyr for the Soldiers of Destiny - and that
his classmates are going with him. Red Troop rush to the school
to discover his teacher is Suzi.
With Suzi at gunpoint, Jamie tells Craig a few home truths about his leader in a bid to persuade him to take the vest off. Then they
realise it is not Craig who is calling the shots...
